TEN IN THE BED

Children sit on the chairs in a row and they sing and act out the song. The most fun moment is when they roll over and fall out on the floor one after the other one.
They love this popular song because it's a great song for creative play. They want to sing it over and over again.
It's also a good introduction to subtraction as children countdown on their fingers.
The teacher pauses the music, holds up ten fingers, and counts them together with the children. Then she asks “How many fingers?” Next, she points to one of her thumbs and bends it so that now there are only nine fingers showing. She asks, “Now how many fingers?”  After the answer, together, count the remaining fingers.

AN OTHER POSSIBILITY:
Sing the song while seated and give children 10 objects they can use to count with. These can be small bingo chips, pom-poms, erasers, toys, etc.  After each verse, the kids can remove one object and then recount the items.
